Get the app
Broccolideck comes as two apps, one per bundle of games, on every platform:
- Broccolideck Board Games I: the woodland worker-placement game.
- Broccolideck Card Games I: the four card games.
Each app lists only its own games. Everything else is the same: the settings, LAN and online play, and image sharing.
In the browser
Section titled “In the browser”Nothing to install: play in your browser. The page downloads the app once (tens of megabytes) and keeps it; images you fetch are kept in the browser’s own storage. It needs a current browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari from the last year or so). The browser version plays every mode the desktop does, including LAN games with devices on your network and online play.
Desktop
Section titled “Desktop”Linux, macOS and Windows builds are on the releases page. Each release lists what changed; the app shows the same notes under What’s new in its menu after an update.
- Linux: an archive with the executable and a desktop entry.
- macOS: an app bundle; open it from Finder the first time (right-click, Open) as it is not from the App Store.
- Windows: a zip with the executable.
The app keeps its settings and saved games in the usual places for your platform under
papermagicboomer/broccolideck; the card images it has fetched live in the
cache folder there.
Android and Android TV
Section titled “Android and Android TV”The Android packages (APK) are on the same releases page, one per bundle. They run on phones, tablets and Android TV devices; on a TV the app shows on the home screen with its banner and plays with the remote alone (the arrows move a green frame over what can be chosen, OK chooses, Back closes). A phone is kept in landscape, where the tables fit; a tablet or an unfolded foldable turns freely.
E-ink readers
Section titled “E-ink readers”Broccolideck runs on Kobo and jailbroken Kindle readers with a paper theme: greyscale, no animations, and the frontlight controls in its settings. The packages are on the releases page with the steps for each device; it is for the patient player (turn-based games suit e-ink best).
Building it yourself
Section titled “Building it yourself”The app is free software under the GNU LGPL 3. The source repository has the build steps for every platform; the README there is the developers’ documentation.
